PETROS, together with PETRONAS and Shell, is leading Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects in Sarawak. This initiative aims to unlock sour gas reserves, reduce CO₂ emissions, and position Sarawak as a regional leader in CCS technology.
Sarawak’s Journey Towards Sustainable Energy and Economic Transformation
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is at the forefront of Sarawak’s strategy for a low-carbon future. In partnership with PETRONAS and Shell, the state is not only aiming to reduce industrial carbon emissions but also exploring cross-border CO₂ storage solutions. With a focus on building robust infrastructure, these efforts are transforming Sarawak into a clean energy hub, attracting global investments and contributing to worldwide decarbonization while unlocking economic opportunities through innovative energy technologies.
Key Outcomes
Development of 9 billion tonnes of carbon storage potential
RM140 billion in investment opportunities
Stranded sour gas resource commercialisation
